Who Gets the 50% Discount?

According to the final clause of Article 8 of the LFD, only certain categories qualify for the reduced rate:

Family Unity (Unidad Familiar)
Employment Offers (Oferta de Empleo)
Organizational Invitations (very rare)

🧠 Translation: If you’re applying through economic solvency, you’ll pay the full amount. But if your application is based on family ties or a job offer, you may pay just half.

📍 Important: How each INM office interprets and applies this rule still varies. Be sure to verify directly at your local INM or with a trusted facilitator.

So, What’s Still Unclear?

Despite clear fee categories, the real-life application of the 50% rule remains inconsistent. Some INM offices automatically apply the discount for qualifying categories. Others require proof, legal arguments or don’t offer it at all.

That’s why reliable immigration support matters more than ever.

💬 "Even with the updated laws and fee charts, we still see offices interpret things differently. If you don’t want surprises, you need a pro in your corner."

Frequently Asked Questions

Who qualifies for the 50% discount on residency fees?

If you’re applying through Family Unity, an Employment Offer, or an Organizational Invitation, you may only pay half the standard fee. Most Economic Solvency applicants are required to pay the full rate.

What documents do I need to apply for residency in Mexico?

You’ll typically need your passport, financial documents (or proof of family relationship), passport photos, and a completed application. We walk you through every step and review all your paperwork.

What is the process for applying?

Most applicants begin at a Mexican consulate abroad, then complete the process at INM in Mexico. Our team helps with strategy, appointment scheduling, translations, and local facilitators.

Do all INM offices apply the discount equally?

Unfortunately, no. Each immigration office may interpret Article 8 differently. That’s why it helps to work with someone who knows your region’s quirks.

Can I apply for 4 years right away?

In some cases, yes! Especially through family unity or economic solvency, it’s possible to apply for a longer term right away and reduce future renewals.
