In My Anchor Era: What I Shared on CPS News About Moving to Mexico in 2025

Moving to Mexico in 2025

Cps News | TV Mar Puerto Vallarta

By Dez | My Deztination

Earlier this week, I was invited to speak on CPS News—and let me tell you, it was such a full-circle moment. When I moved to Puerto Vallarta 7.5 years ago, I had no roadmap, no expert to guide me, and definitely no TV segment helping me do it the easy way. But now? I get to be that guide for others.

Here’s what I shared with Brent and Jessy’s viewers during my segment—and if you’re even thinking about moving to Mexico in 2025, this info could be game-changing.

🏛️ What You Need to Know About Immigration in 2025

Let’s start with the biggest update:

The RNE (Regularization for Humanitarian Residency) program has been paused. While many people had hopes of using this route, the requirements have changed significantly.

To qualify, you must have been living in Mexico continuously since December 31, 2022, without leaving the country—not even once. That disqualifies the majority of hopeful applicants.

So what now?

💰 The New Go-To Strategy: Financial Solvency

Today, the most common legal path to residency is financial solvency through a Mexican consulate in your home country (U.S., Canada, etc.).

✔ Monthly Income Route:

  • Typically requires $4,700 USD/month in verifiable income

  • Must show 12 months of bank statements

  • Based on past deposits, not future income

✔ Savings Route:

  • Usually requires $72,000 - $81,000 USD in savings

  • Best if the funds have been seasoned for 12 months

⚠ Not all consulates are created equal.

Easier consulates: Omaha, Houston, Indianapolis, Denver
Harder consulates: San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago

Each one has slightly different interpretations and requirements, so strategy matters. This is where working with a trusted relocation consultant can truly make the difference.

🛡️ Protect Your Dream—Start with the Right Strategy

Mexico offers incredible opportunities for relocation, but the legal and immigration process isn’t something you want to DIY. My Starter Relocation Kit gives you expert strategy, trusted referrals, and a clear action plan—so you can move with confidence, not confusion.

🌈 LGBTQ+ Safety, Support & Belonging

This part was especially important for me to share:

With everything happening politically in the U.S., more people—especially in the LGBTQ+ community—are looking for safety, asylum, and dignity. And Puerto Vallarta offers something rare:

  • One of the most LGBTQ-friendly cities in the world

  • Home to Latin America’s largest Pride celebration

  • A community where people are not just tolerated, but welcomed, seen, and celebrated

Zona Romántica is a vibrant, inclusive neighborhood full of color, connection, and love.

Here’s what I do best: I take your real-life situation—your income, pets, kids, goals—and help you answer this:

Do you want ocean views or jungle tranquility? A buzzing, walkable town or a peaceful village with fruit trees? A place for your kids, or somewhere just for you to exhale?

Then I help you design a customized, step-by-step plan to get there.

The most fulfilling part? Watching people shift from fear to clarity. From "How do I even start?" to “Wow, I can really do this.”

🇲🇽 Immigration & Relocation to Mexico: 2025 FAQs with Dez

Is the RNE residency program still available in 2025?

No. As of now, the RNE (Regularization for Humanitarian Residency) program has been paused. To qualify, you must have lived in Mexico continuously since December 31st, 2022, without leaving the country. Most people no longer qualify under this path.

What’s the most common way to get residency in 2025?

The most common path now is financial solvency, which means applying through a Mexican consulate abroad. You’ll qualify either through monthly income (~$4,700 USD/month) or savings (~$72,000–$81,000 USD), ideally documented over the past 12 months.

Are some Mexican consulates easier to work with than others?

Yes—100%. Some consulates are stricter and more difficult to qualify through. Recommended consulates include Omaha, Houston, Indianapolis, and Denver. Avoid San Diego, LA, Seattle, and Chicago unless you’re confident your documents are airtight.

Is Puerto Vallarta a safe and welcoming place for LGBTQ+ individuals?

Absolutely. Puerto Vallarta is one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in the world, hosting the largest Pride celebration in Latin America. In Zona Romántica and beyond, people are welcomed, seen, and celebrated—not just tolerated.

Can I start a business in Mexico as a foreigner?

Yes. You can either apply for residency with permission to work, or open a Mexican corporation and hire yourself. You’ll also need to register with SAT (Mexico’s tax authority) and work with a local accountant.

Can I work remotely for a foreign company while living in Mexico?

Yes! This is one of the most common legal paths. If your income is entirely foreign-sourced, you typically won’t owe taxes in Mexico—but you may still need to report it. Residency is still required for long-term legal stay. Consult a cross-border tax advisor for best practices.

How do I choose between the income or savings route?

It depends on your personal finances. If you have consistent bank deposits, the income route may be easiest. If you’ve saved a lump sum, the savings route is better. Both require solid documentation. Dez can help you decide what’s best based on your current situation.

I’m LGBTQ+ and feeling unsafe in the U.S.—can I move to Mexico?

Yes. Many people are relocating to Mexico for reasons beyond weather and cost of living. Puerto Vallarta offers a sense of dignity, belonging, and safety—especially for LGBTQ+ individuals and families. Dez works closely with LGBTQ+ clients seeking a new start in Mexico.

What makes Dez’s relocation services different?

I help you build a fully customized relocation plan—from choosing the right consulate to finding your dream home. Whether you're moving solo, with kids, or with pets, I make the process easy, legal, and tailored to your lifestyle. Book your consultation here.
