A thank you letter to the boss who fired me - You saved my life

Note: If you're reading this letter expecting to hear some slandering comments, please close this window; This letter isn't for you. I'm not going to go over the details of what happened or why, because even though I proved the termination was wrongful & the owner broke the law, the details of this case simply don't matter. But if you'd like to know how getting fired saved my life, then please, read on.

To the woman who thought I could be defeated

Sadly, I suspect your intentions were to hurt me.

I'm inclined to think that your decision was in retaliation for "challenging your authority".

And I  presume you made your decision because you felt threatened, cornered & knew you were morally wrong.

You thought you could easily conquer me.

But instead, you showed me what I needed to see

I needed to see that I had all but succumbed to a life of monotony.

That I had conformed to routine.

I needed to see that I had prioritized incorrectly, putting the needs of your company above my own goals.

And you showed me that there is no true loyalty in the workforce.

That everyone is replaceable.

That I was replaceable.

But what I needed to realize was - so were you

You broke me.

But not in the way that you intended.

You broke me free from the chains of a life lived only for the weekends; A life lived for a paycheck; A life working for you.

I couldn't have done it without you.

And, for that, I thank you.

Thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone; forcing me to make a life change; helping me re-prioritize my life.

Thank you for not believing in me; you pushed me to believe even more in myself & what I was capable of.

You gave me the courage to drop everything & move abroad.

You showed me my own strengths; my incessant resiliency; my entrepreneurial skills.

You gave me something I needed more than anything at that moment - the time to focus on my goals & grow my business internationally.

You motivated me, inspired me & contributed to the most positive life change I made in 2017.

So, to the woman who thought I could be defeated: Thank you

Because without your decision to fire me, I'd still be stuck in the chains of routine with a smile on my face, conforming to a clock-in-clock-out lifestyle & pretending it was a life enough to suffice.

Cheers, to my one month anniversary of living abroad.

I wouldn't be where I am without you.
